Import from Canny, Featurebase or a CSV file
FeatQ imports requests, statuses, votes and comments from Canny and Featurebase through their APIs, up to 2,000 requests per run, keeping each voter's email where the source has it. It imports requests and vote counts from any CSV export of up to 5,000 rows. Re-running an import only adds what is new, and imported voters get no FeatQ emails.
Where is the importer?
Open your board admin, go to the Settings tab and scroll to Import. It has three tabs: Canny, Featurebase and CSV file. Only the board owner can see it, and sandbox boards do not have it.
What comes across from Canny?
Paste the secret API key from your Canny settings (API), pick a Canny board and start the import. FeatQ uses the key for this import only and does not store it.
- Posts become requests, with their status, description and created date.
- Votes from voters with an email become votes on FeatQ, under that email.
- Votes without an email are kept in the request's vote count.
- Comments come across. Internal or private comments are skipped.
The Canny API is available to accounts on all Canny plans, according to Canny's help center (as of October 2026).
What comes across from Featurebase?
Create a key under Settings → API in your Featurebase dashboard. Featurebase API keys have full access to your workspace (as of October 2026). FeatQ only reads, never stores the key, and you can delete the key when the import is done.
- Posts become requests. Featurebase HTML is converted to plain text.
- Voters with an email become votes on FeatQ. Votes without an email are kept in the request's vote count.
- If the key cannot read voter lists, only the vote counts come over, as numbers.
- Public comments come across. Private, deleted, spam and in-review comments do not.
- Posts that are in review, hidden from the portal or restricted to some users are skipped.
- After you load your boards, FeatQ shows how each Featurebase status will map before you import.
Featurebase's API needs their Growth plan or higher on current pricing, or Business on older plans (as of October 2026). On the Free plan, export your requests from Settings → Data and use the CSV tab. That import keeps vote counts as numbers and cannot import voters or comments.
What comes across from a CSV file?
Upload a CSV export with a header row. FeatQ guesses which column is which and shows a preview first, so you can change the mapping before anything is imported. The columns it can use are title, description, status, votes, created date, submitter email and ID. Only the title is required.
- Vote counts are kept as numbers. A CSV has no voters, so no voters or comments are imported.
- Rows with a closed or declined status, rows without a title and duplicate rows are skipped.
- Each file can be up to 900 KB and 5,000 rows. Split larger exports into several files.
How are statuses mapped?
FeatQ has five statuses. Source statuses are matched by name, ignoring case:
| FeatQ status | Source status names |
|---|---|
| New | new, open, pending, triage, an empty status, or any name not listed here |
| Considering | under review, considering, reviewing, in review, reviewed |
| Planned | planned, accepted, scheduled, approved |
| In progress | in progress, started, building, in development, working on it |
| Done | done, complete, completed, shipped, released, live, launched |
| Skipped (not imported) | closed, declined, rejected, won't do, not planned, archived |
Featurebase: a status name in the table wins. Otherwise the status type decides: reviewing becomes Considering, unstarted becomes Planned (or New when it is your default status), active becomes In progress, completed becomes Done, and canceled is skipped.
Can I run it again?
Yes. A Canny or Featurebase import skips the requests, votes and comments that are already on your board. A CSV import matches rows on the ID column, or on the title when there is no ID, and refreshes the vote counts of rows it has seen before.
- One Canny or Featurebase run imports up to 2,000 requests, 20,000 votes and 10,000 comments, and stops after 10 minutes. If it stops early, run the import again to bring over the rest.
- Each board can start 3 imports per hour. Only one Canny or Featurebase import runs on a board at a time; a CSV import does not wait for it.
Do imported voters get emails?
No. Imported voters keep their vote, but status emails are off for them, because they never signed up for emails from FeatQ. An import also sends no webhooks.
Can I import a private board or private comments?
Into a private FeatQ board, yes. A private Canny board or a restricted Featurebase board can only be imported into a private FeatQ board. Make your FeatQ board private first, or pick a public board. If your Canny board hides comments from users and your FeatQ board is public, no comments are imported.
Checked against the importer on October 21, 2026 by the FeatQ team. More guides in the FeatQ docs.
